Extreme Couponing Update

I'm on a roll! Updates all over the place! Well here's where I am on the extreme couponing.

I am awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, I have saved some money. We'll say oh... 7% on average at the grocery store. It's hard to "extreme coupon" within the parameters that I have set for myself. Those parameters are:  1) Don't buy stuff that I don't need 2) I am not about to store excessive amounts of stuff. These seem to be key parts of "extreme couponing" but I save 100% when I don't buy stuff that I don't need. Also, when you buy excessive amounts of stuff, you have to store it for a long time and that means that there's probably a lot of preservatives. The Skinny B*tch book says that foods with preservatives will preserve themselves on your @ss. I think they may have a point. There are some very very overweight people on the "Extreme Couponing" show. I mean, it would be hard not to eat a lot if you essentially had a grocery store in your house. Do I cook or do I throw a frozen pizza in the oven? I know what would win at this house....

Well yesterday I had a good trip in the couponing department. I had the store ad to Walgreens and we were low on a bunch of hygiene products. So with my coupons in hand and I set out to save. I had 10 items valued at $33.80 with my coupons I got my total down to $24.21 ($9.59 or 35.2% savings). I also got a $3 "Catalina" coupon from the store which means I have a $3 credit towards my next purchase (and I already had a photo purchase from online waiting on me). So we'll go ahead and call my new total $21.21 (12.59 or  37.3% total savings). Well I got to my car and this is probably the most important tip of the day. Pay attention to your receipts!! I looked at my receipt and I noticed that on the shelf an item said Buy One Get One Free. Well my receipt did not reflect my 50% discount on the second item. The item was $5.29.  Furthermore, I had bought 3 packs of gum because they were on sale 3 for $2. Instead I was charged $0.99 each. I was going to just drive away and not worry about it, but then I thought, "What's the purpose of clipping these coupons if I am going to drive away from savings? It's in the name of science!" So I went back in and it turns out that they had over charged me $4.14 (12.2% of my original total). So now my total is $17.07 (16.73 or 49.5% in total savings!).

This adventure, I would say was worth it. This was a good learning experience. This encourages me to keep looking for good deals, especially on things that I need. I'll let you know if I discover any more secrets or good methods!
