Guy Time Girl Time

I think it is really important in a marriage (from my 2 years of experience and my 26 years of experience observing others) for each person to have time with their peeps.  I almost always encourage Matt to do things with his friends unless we have other plans.  He never tells me that he would prefer that I not go out with my friends. It is one thing that I really to appreciate about our relationship. We aren't jealous and look forward to hearing about what a great time each other had with their friends. Some couples need to spend every moment together and hey, to each their own, but for us we think relationships with our friends are also really important.

Last Saturday Matt's friend Scott invited Matt to play golf with him, Mitch, and his dad. The only problem was that I didn't really have any plans in Tulsa for that day, so what to do while they have their guy time? Luckily, Danielle had the day off so we went to the zoo with her little girl Serenity.

I love Serenity as much as a person can love a child that isn't their own (and haven't adopted). She is a hilarious little human, and well, she is exactly like her mom.

The kid couldn't make up her mind about which animal she wanted to ride. What I love about this picture is that I am totally trying to reason with a 3 year old. And she is trying to reason with me. We are going to watch her for a couple of days next week  while Danielle is at a wedding and I am really excited about it. We are going to wear each other out.

I had a really nice visit with Danielle. Hanging out with her is like a breath of fresh air. She just knows me so well and I miss her all the time.

Unfortunately it started raining so after a couple of hours we had to head out. I hated to crash Matt's guy time but I wasn't sure what to do after our trip to the zoo. So I went and hung out. I rode around with Scott's mom while they played the last couple of holes.

Scott's parents are really cool people. They are really fun to hang out with and awesome hosts. We swam at their place and ate Steve's specialty: ribs. I felt sort of bad about crashing guy time but I hung out with Debbie a lot and swam while the boys went and walked the course.

Last night, Anna and I finally made it to our "Wine and Palette" night. Anna is my little in Alpha Delta Pi and she really is the perfect little for me.  It's weird how things just work out.  She is one of my best friends and I am glad that we keep in touch like we do.  We bought a Groupon MONTHS ago but finding a picture we wanted to do that coincided with our schedule was really difficult. We finally had one which I accidentally scheduled the same day as my anniversary. An hour before (after we were all dressed and meeting up for dinner) we found out it was cancelled due to the Moore tornado.  I have to give it to Matt for being such a team player on that one. If he would have scheduled something on our anniversary I would have been very upset. I think he was sort of excited to have a built in "get out of jail free" card.

We met up for sushi and then headed to our class.

Phase 1: Mix colors. Paint the canvas. We had more questions than we should have.

 Anna had an interesting technique
Phase 2: Abstract Whimsical something or other.
Phase 3: Make a branch, a leaf, and what appears to be an egg

Phase 4: Give him a face

This was the original published on the website. I didn't think they turned out too far off!
 Our masterpieces!
We had such a great time! I am looking forward to hanging mine up (no matter what Matt might think!). Another successful girls night. It's good for the soul.  I have a bachelorette party on Thursday. I LOVE being home! Now to get to work on a paper...

Until next time!
