2 Fourths a Concert & a Golf Game

Another weekend in the life of busy summer folks. It seems we have been stacked with events every weekend that I have been home. Part of me loves it (which is why we keep scheduling things) and part of me finds it exhausting. Especially on the Monday that we get back which is typically full of laundry, unpacking, cleaning, and getting ready for the next trip. Meanwhile I am supposed to be working on papers....

So a quick blog post and I'll get back to working on the papers.

We went home to Northeast Oklahoma for the Fourth of July to spend time with my family. Joe met us in Edmond and we headed that way. My dad accidentally completely torched the burgers and hot dogs. The ways he tells it: "One minute they perfect and the next they were on fire!" Poor guy. I hated to see him put in so much effort for it to go wrong. I just used a bunch of condiments and carried on!

We went to the river walk in Jenks to watch their show. After some negotiating with the guys guarding the parking spots I got us a really nice spot and we all just spent time together in lawn chairs under a tent and got ready for the show.

It was a really nice show. Probably one of the better ones I have ever seen. Traffic was a nightmare getting out of there but it was worth it.

The next morning we headed down to Matt's parent's house in Southern Oklahoma. His grandmother and aunt and uncle and cousins came over too. It was really like a 4th of July Part 2. I don't like to play volley ball. You have to condition our arms to let that ball slam down on them without it hurting. I haven't played since 8th grade, so my arms had no such conditioning. So I took the pictures.

You might be saying to yourself, "Well that's great Shanna. You got to sit out and take pictures which look more like 'bloopers'. Nice work. I bet your loved ones appreciated that."
Don't worry I got mine.

I challenged Matt to a game of soccer (another game I haven't played for about a decade). We were going to use some trees as goal posts. About 30 seconds in he goes left and so do I. But some how his right shoulder slammed right into my left eye. It nearly knocked the wind out of me. Are you okay? Ya know, I don't know! Turns out I was fine but I was really worried about getting a black eye. You know who believes the story that a shoulder went to the eye? No one. That's who.

Later we got a nice fireworks show by our cousin Ryan. He's such a good sport.

Next up: Concert Time!!!

I must have clicked at the exact right moment because somehow I scored us some pretty good seats to the Twister Relief Concert which included artists such as: Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Toby Kieth, Trisha Yearwood, Ronnie Dunn, John Anderson, Sammy Hagar, and Carry Underwood (via Satellite, lame).

To make things even better, my cousin Katie is the Stillwater Radio morning show host (friends in high places, am I right??). She got media passes to the show and said I could use the other one! What good luck!!

So we got to go to the media room where the artists were giving interviews. I kept taking pictures with my little point and click like I was some one important. Actually I sat still in my chair and kept my head low so they wouldn't kick me out of there. There were a lot of people taking their jobs very seriously.

DO YOU SEE HOW CLOSE I WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I genuinely tried to get a shot of Toby smiling but there just wasn't one. Homeboy was apparently worn out from organizing the whole thing. He did say a few cool things about OSU and how all of his vets come out of OSU. I liked that about him. Even if I don't care much for his music or his undying allegiance to OU (hehe).

The crowd was pretty incredible. This is where the photographers got to hang out and shoot. I felt pretty important (and sort of like an idiot with my point and click).

How close did you get Shanna??? THIS CLOSE.

This is me with my cousin Katie who had the amazing hook up! I like knowing famous people. She's famous to me ;)

Danielle came to the concert too.

And Willie! Oh Willie you make my heart happy even if you forget the words to your own songs.

I hope I look like a badass when I'm 80. Or even 30. I actually wish I looked like a badass now.

And of course I enjoyed the show with my hubby.
To be fair I did offer him the media pass for the Willie portion.

Good 'ol Ronnie Dunn.
And the best song Toby has put out in a decade: RED SOLO CUP.

Then he started saying "Red Sooner Cup" and we were out of there.

On our way back to the car Matt and I apparently complained enough about or feet hurting and we were tired that a limo driver over heard us and offered to take us to our car (over a mile away) for $10. SOLD!

If it wasn't enough: Golfing and Swimming to cap the weekend.

Matt is a good golfer. Until I met him, I don't think I had ever actually been on a golf course. After 5 years of riding in the cart, I finally got to play! I played once on our honeymoon and another time a few weeks back. I played terribly yesterday. I need to take a few lessons. It's sort of embarrassing to repeatedly hit poor shots in front of the 'ol in-laws. I wanted to be a natural. Oh well. Maybe I'll show marked improvement NEXT time.

Plus I'm really just in it for the clothes.

See my hat that I won in a bet by making a par 3 last time Matt and I golfed. The shoes were an impulse buy, but my goodness they are darling for golf.

We used every last ounce of energy we had left and swam when we got back to Matt's parents house. Or at least I did. We had a big lunch so I wanted to burn a few more calories. Plus I love to swim. I wanted to grow up to be a mermaid when I was younger.

I'd say this was an especially busy weekend, but this seems to be how we roll these days. We are headed to a wedding in Silverton, CO for the lovely Shana and John this weekend. We are really looking forward to it, and inevitably how beautiful it will be. Another blog post coming soon!
