A Weekend for the Books

A long time ago when I was a new blogger I wrote a post about my good friend An Ode to Lo. I just read it again and it makes me laugh because of all the things that have happened since then. In the book called "My Friendship with Lo" that post would have only represented the introduction.
Now that she is back in Oklahoma we spend time together pretty regularly. Her birthday was coming up so we have been trying to work out plans for weeks. She has a friend living in Fayetteville and a large portion of my family lives there so we decided to give it a try. I had been there with Danielle before and we had a great time. Even though it wasn't a typical spring break/birthday weekend location we decided to go for it. And speaking of Danielle, she came too!

Thursday night was Lo's actual birthday so she Matt and I went to Saints in OKC.

Poor Matt is always stuck being the photographer.

And at Saints they give you a shot of Jameson for your birthday. What happened to a slice of cake? She was feeling a little under the weather from celebrating the night before... but our 21 year old selves would be ashamed of us for turning down free alcohol. I told the waiter that he should bring it for her and she said only if he would take it with her. Before we know it all of the staff of Saints was at our table.

We also stopped by Urban Wineworks for a tasting which is a fun little winery in OKC. We ended the night at Empire Pizza and we met up with one of her friends from ESPN.

The next morning it was time to start our journey to Arkansas.

We went and watched the demise of Oklahoma State basketball in the tournament. There went my bracket. We met up with Cameron and his girlfriend Shantel at a sports bar in Fayetteville. Then we went to George's Majestic which was a really cool bar and they have live bands all of the time, largely of the Red Dirt genre so it was our kind of place.

And my dad and uncle were there!
Awe.

The amount of photos from this weekend was a little sporadic. We went to a bar called the "Electric Cowboy" where exactly zero people actually knew how to two-step. I did however see people line dancing to Miley Cyrus' "We can't stop." I kept looking around wondering where I was. We met up with our friends and checked out Dickson Street. The night ended with us teaching some northwest Arkansas boys how to two-step in the parking lot of the Electric Cowboy bar while Eric Church was playing from my car. You might be saying, "Well... that's sort of a strange transition" and all I could really reply is "Yup..."
That's just how we are... these outcomes don't even surprise me anymore. We just laugh until we hurt, go to bed and start all over the next day.

So the next morning we get up what felt like extremely early and went to pick up Danielle since there  was a mix up with getting her the night before. We had big brunch plans.... but naturally we were running late so Lunch it was.  I don't know if you've ever been to El Tap in Stillwater but it must be family business because we found an exact replica with a different name right behind our hotel.

And then we got our nails done. Danielle got Lo a bottle of wine for her birthday which we took into the salon. And we forgot a corkscrew... Lo went into the grocery store next door to buy one. She came back with two boxes of girl scout cookies and a screw driver. While I was sitting in the chair to get a pedicure she, with all the seriousness in the world hands me the bottle of wine and the screw driver so I could pour everyone a glass. I sent her to the liquor store that was a hundred yards away because this experience had already been sufficiently ridiculous without me shredding a wine work while some poor woman is working on my toes.

Then we met up with Cam and Shantel. Cam owns a limo company in Fayetteville so they pulled up to our hotel in a party bus. We went to a winery in Tontitown and kept looking around hoping we would run into the Duggar family. If you ever find yourself in Tontitown, the winery is actually quite nice. You should check it out!

They also have this thing called the "Ale Trail" of 7 breweries that you go to and get a little passport stamped after trying their beers. We made it to two.

Then we had dinner and hit Dickson street. We found a piano bar. I LOVE PIANO BARS!

And what's a trip to a piano bar on your birthday without sitting on the piano and having them sing a highly inappropriate song that didn't seem to have anything to do with birthdays....

And when you see a breathalyzer for a dollar you obviously have to try it. Now before you get all judgmental about our celebration I have to tell you that this was a highly exaggerating little machine. I think it might have had a contract with the cab companies or something. It also repeatedly told us to wait 15 minutes before taking a drink of anything before blowing into it... but after 15 minutes we would have totally forgotten about the whole thing.

So we wandered around and just had a good time. It was surprisingly busy everywhere for being the first weekend of spring break. I have a theory that all of the smart kids saved up their money and went on a trip leaving behind....some less than intellectual folks and they all seemed to have a conversation with me. All in all, we had a GREAT time and I wish I could remember every detail because it was so much fun and a cherished memory. It seemed more like my birthday because I had both of my best friends there. Cam and Shantel were a great time and tremendously generous.
I am glad I have memories like these to look back on. I am so abundantly blessed with incredible people in my life. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Matt were there. However, he is probably glad that he wasn't because he doesn't really think we're as hilarious as we think we are. I hope my lovely LoLo had a great birthday and we can just add it to our collection of happy memories. Now it's back to work for LONG days so we can do it all over again in Chicago in two weeks!
