"Food Inc." in review

My co-worker, Monica, had recently told me about this video (Food Inc.) that she had bought and downloaded to her computer but she just couldn't watch it. She said that she had heard things about it that she didn't think she could stomach. She said she didn't have a problem with eating meat but she just didn't want to watch the animals be hurt. Okay, that makes sense. However, she was also kicking herself for paying for this movie but didn't think she could watch it. Well yesterday I said, okay, I've heard great things about this movie so I'll watch it and let you know if it's too bad, or tell you when not to watch.
Well I would have to say that this movie is definitely worth at the very least, a rental. Especially if you liked "Super size me" because it does a terrific job of making people think about where their food comes from.
So I watched the movie and kept detailed notes of the times when she shouldn't watch the movie (even though, overall the movie really didn't bother me at all as far as gruesomeness. Even though I would never condone the blatant abuse of animals.). Knowing that she was sensitive to the subject my notes included statements like " 16:37- ooo... interesting, but don't watch it, you wont like it" and " 37:22- GROSS!! I mean, I watched it twice but you wont like it" and "106:24-You'll never eat pig again"
The movie even featured "Polyface Farms" which I highly recommend that you look up.

My friend Grady worked for them last year in a highly competitive internship. He even met his future wife there and has developed a business practicing what he learned during his internship (although I think he went there with a great deal of knowledge on the subject in the first place).
My undergraduate degree was in Environmental Science and so I had the opportunity to take several classes with an agriculture focus. I would say that I am probably more aware of where our food comes from than the average bear, but this movie really reinforced that we need to be paying attention to where our food comes from and what we put into our bodies. This affects our health, economics, and the environment.
I highly recommend watching this movie. An important statement they make in the movie is that we vote for what we want by the purchases that we make in stores. If we show markets that we are interested in foods that are holistically sustainable, then that is what we will have.

I LOVE Food, Inc! We own it. I actually want to watch it again soon. We buy mainly everything organic - at least groceries. It's hard to when you eat out! Glad you enjoyed it!
